IGONE DE JONGH.
Igone de Jongh was born in the Netherlands and trained at the National Ballet Academy in Amsterdam and The Royal Ballet School in London. She joined Dutch National Ballet and rose rapidly through the ranks, becoming a Principal dancer at the age of 24 after progressing through all levels of the company in just seven years. This early rise established her as one of the most prominent Dutch ballerinas of her generation.
Throughout her career with Dutch National Ballet, she performed leading roles across the classical repertoire and became especially known for her refined interpretations and strong stage presence. She was also closely associated with the work of Hans van Manen, becoming one of his most recognised muses. In addition to her stage career, she became known to wider audiences through television as a jury member on Dance Dance Dance, further increasing her public profile in the Netherlands.
After concluding her 24 year career with Dutch National Ballet in 2019, she began a new independent chapter as a freelance artist. She developed her own theatre tours and gala projects, published her autobiography in 2020, and became involved in broader artistic and educational initiatives. In 2022, together with Alexei Ratmansky, she took on a leading programming role with The United Ukrainian Ballet, contributing to the visibility and international support of Ukrainian ballet artists. Her post-company career has shown a clear expansion from performer to curator, presenter and cultural advocate.
