DIANA VISHNEVA.
Diana Vishneva was born in St Petersburg, where she trained at the Vaganova Academy of Russian Ballet, one of the most prestigious ballet schools in the world. During her studies, she gained early international recognition, winning the Prix de Lausanne and establishing herself as a major emerging talent on the global stage.
Upon graduation, she joined the Mariinsky Theatre, where she quickly rose through the ranks to become one of the leading ballerinas of her generation and a central figure of the company. From the beginning of her career, she performed leading roles in the classical repertoire, including Swan Lake, Giselle, Don Quixote, La Bayadère, The Sleeping Beauty and Manon, bringing a distinctive artistic voice, technical refinement and dramatic intensity to each role.
Her career has taken her to the world’s most prestigious stages, including the Bolshoi Theatre, Royal Opera House, Opéra de Paris, Teatro alla Scala and Metropolitan Opera. From 2005 to 2017, she was also a Principal dancer with American Ballet Theatre, where she further expanded her international presence and artistic range.
Her work extends far beyond the classical canon. She has collaborated with some of the most influential choreographers of the 20th and 21st centuries, including William Forsythe, John Neumeier, Alexei Ratmansky, Jiří Kylián and Carolyn Carlson. Her ability to move seamlessly between classical and contemporary repertoire has established her as one of the most versatile and influential artists of her time.
In addition to her performing career, she has developed numerous interdisciplinary projects, working with leading directors, visual artists and designers across film, theatre and visual arts. As the founder of the Diana Vishneva Foundation and the international festival Context, she actively supports the development of contemporary choreography and emerging artists, contributing to the future of dance beyond her own stage career.
