Alexey Poluboyarinov was born in Saint Petersburg. He began his training at the Theatre of Youth Creativity, where he developed a broad foundation across lighting design, multimedia, and stage production.

He graduated from the Russian State Institute of Performing Arts, Faculty of Scenography and Stage Technology, with a degree in Stage Technology and Design. Alongside his studies, he began collaborating with the Show Consulting Studio under the direction of Gleb Filshinsky, where he has been involved since 2015. From 2016 to 2019, he served as Head of Stage Production at the institution, where he also continues to teach multimedia related subjects.

In 2021, he took on a leading role within the studio as head of the Virtual Stage project, working at the intersection of performance, digital environments, and new technologies. Since 2022, he has been based in Warsaw, where he continues to work internationally as a lighting and video designer, technical director, and video engineer. His work spans opera, ballet, theatre, and large scale cultural projects, and he has contributed to more than seventy productions across major institutions and festivals worldwide.

His collaborations include projects with Staatsoper Berlin, Bayerische Staatsoper, Bayreuth Festival, La Monnaie in Brussels, the Bolshoi Theatre, Teatro di San Carlo in Naples, and the Mikhailovsky Theatre, among others. His work extends from large scale opera productions such as Der Ring des Nibelungen, Der Freischütz, The Flying Dutchman, and Sadko, to ballet and interdisciplinary projects, as well as museum and site specific performances. Across these contexts, his work explores the relationship between light, space, image, and narrative, often integrating digital technologies into live performance

His work has been recognised with several awards, including the National “Mass Theatre” Award for Best Specialist in Stage Innovations and Technologies in 2018, the Grand Prix at the Digital Gonzaga Media Artist Competition within the Digital Opera 2.0 Festival in 2019, and the Digital Opera Award for Best Production Designer in 2021.
